Youth Rally students with Dr. J. David Hawkins.

Last week, Communities In Schools of PA staff members Jane and Meg attended the 3rd Annual Commonwealth Prevention Alliance Conference and Youth Rally held at Penn State University. The conference offered informational sessions on topics such as strengthening leadership, data tracking, and social media strategies with youth.

The Youth Rally, which was held on Wednesday, highlighted six innovative and inspiring youth programs from across the Commonwealth. The purpose of the Youth Rally was to provide youth-led prevention initiatives with a day-long training to help expand their knowledge of effective evidence-based activities.

Some of the topics the students learned about were teen depression and suicide prevention, how to engage peers in the D&A conversation through interactive activities, how to interpret and use PAYS data, and team bonding exercises that they can use with their own programs. The Rally was a chance for the students to present the projects they had administered in their schools and communities within the past year for their sponsors and conference attendees.

Communities In Schools of Pennsylvania is proud to be a sponsor of the following youth programs:

  • PAWS…And Think
  • Teens for a Better Tomorrow
