Communities In Schools of Pennsylvania is proud to announce that our site coordinator, Leyna, has received the 2018 Communities In Schools All In For Students Award.

Leyna is being recognized for her dedication to the York County community and the services she provides to the students and families of Jackson Elementary School. When Leyna started at Jackson Elementary four years ago, she saw her students fall victim to frustration, hopelessness, and a rising suspension rate, and knew changes had to be made.

In an effort to improve her student’s situation, Leyna facilitated self-run groups focusing on reducing aggression and increasing self-esteem. The results showed a 50% decrease in suspension rates and increased time spent in the classroom. We couldn’t be more proud of Leyna’s hard work – congratulations!

Created in 2007, the All In For Students Awards honors the remarkable work of CIS staff, educators, community partners and CIS alumni, who go all in for students, empowering them to stay in school, graduate and go on to brighter futures.

The awards ceremony will be held in Charleston, South Carolina at Communities In Schools’ annual Leadership Town Hall on September 13, 2018.
