Grief & Healing Support

Anna was having a very rough year. Not only did she begin midde school which is a challenge for any adolescent, but unfortunately her school year started off with significant trauma. Anna was seriously injured and missed over a month of classes as a result of her injuries. After she resturned to school, she learned her mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Anna was battling trauma from her accident but now was scared for her mother and did not want to leave her on school days. Attendence became an issue. Students who are habitually truant are more likely

to suffer academically and be held back multiple grade levels, which often leads to dropping out of school. Anna’s attendence concerns escalated when her father was hospitalized due to minor stroke. A CIS Site Coordinator stationed at Anna’s school coached and mentored Anna on how to handle her anxiety and fear and also consulted with a family-based therapist on how to reach Anna and get her attendence up. Before Spring break, Anna achieved her highest consecutive attendence all school year.
